I apologize for the delay, I haven't checked my deviantart in quite some time. I no longer have the exact hat available as it was sold a number of years ago but if you are still interested in a commission hat feel free to contact me at maryanastasia@live.com

I don't remember now If I send a comment for the hat!...but if I don't I'll just say that it's pretty cool and I like it, and I have a little doubt about the steampunk style...I read that is like a fusion of victorian era and tecnology, but I still have doubts, even watching the picture of your hat :P...can you explain me a little bit plz? thank you!

I'm really not entirely sure about the steampunk style myself! I have some very knowledgeable friends who help guide me, but essentially when it comes to my hats, I just make what I think looks good at the time, and this is what struck me that particular day!

I'd need a costume to match, or it'd look a bit strange :meow:

I suppose, some people just wear them with their outfits. :)

You got the concept but the fabric is a little...off. You should have used a dark color, like a rust red or something, then put maybe a black lave over it. A women's hat wouldn't be like that, it would be a wider brim, more floppy and maybe even have lace coming off. A man's hat, which this seems to be, the top seems to be a little tall and a little narrow.

Otherwise, this is a really cool piece. I love all the little tid bits on it!

Hey, I was wondering what your brim is made of and how you made the underside look so neat?
Reply
:iconadreamersimagination:
I don't really know how to explain it, hmm... The brim is made of a kind of foam, and I use fabri-tac glue to keep the fabric from getting all wrinkly. Other than that, I'm not sure. :) Sorry it took so long to respond, I was at a con all weekend.

What kind of foam you use? I never heard of someone using foam. I use cardboard because I'm pretty good with it and then put poster board on top. Gives it its smooth texture my problem is I din't know how to cut patterns out or if I should use one so i end up using more fabric then I need and it looks messy. Sort of. Should I be cutting it in a patter and just always use things around the brim to hide it?

:iconadreamersimagination:
Just craft foam. It's pretty generic, but works like a dream. Cardboard is great if you want a stiff brim, but the foam allows it to fold.

I don't use patterns for mine, but I think everyone does it their own way.
